Mostar / Počitelj / Blagaj

Mostaris a city where north meets south and east meets west, a place where the Neretva River has for centuries divided cultures and religions, yet also brought them together. This city grew from a small ancient settlement, and its iconic bridge and towers, along with the oldest parts of modern Mostar, were built by the Ottomans during their empire. The fortified settlement connected by the bridge over the Neretva was first documented in the 15th century. Mostar derives its name from the bridge (“most” in Turkish = bridge) and the two fortified towers on either side, known as the “Guardians of the Bridge” (Mostari), Helebija and Tara.

The **Old Bridge (Stari Most)** is a true architectural marvel of its time, spanning 30 meters in length, 4 meters in width, and standing 24 meters above the river. Its arch is made of local stone called *Tenelija*.

After an organized city tour, you can enjoy free time to stroll the streets, admire the narrow alleys, historic monuments, and experience the city’s rich story whispered through its centuries-old architecture.

Počitelj is a unique settlement listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recently restored to its original form. Known for its exceptional oriental and Ottoman architecture, Počitelj also hosts one of Southeast Europe’s oldest art colonies, attracting artists from around the world. Here, you can see stunning red pomegranates and figs growing on the hillsides. Key sites include Hadži-Alija Mosque, Sisman-Ibrahimpaša Madrasa, and Gavrankapetanović House, all recently restored and open to visitors. The most remarkable structure is the Sahat Tower, a fortress atop the hill that once housed guards protecting the Neretva Valley from enemy invasion. In the Middle Ages, Počitelj was the administrative center of the Dubrava region. The fortified town complex was gradually developed from the 16th to the 18th century, with its origins likely linked to Bosnian King Stjepan Tvrtko I in 1383.

Blagaj enjoys nearly 200 sunny days a year and is home to around 170 bird species, including the endangered griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus). The ecologically pure and cold Buna River (8°C), with one of Europe’s strongest springs (36 m³/s), is ideal for breeding world-famous trout. The surrounding area produces Mediterranean fruits such as grapes, figs, peaches, apricots, and kiwi. According to tradition, the Tekija at the Buna spring was founded by Bektashi dervishes in the 16th century.

This tour offers a combination of history, culture, and breathtaking natural beauty—a journey through centuries of heritage along the Neretva River.
